Portable and Speed Darlington engaged
in lyrical spats before later on duking it out in a celebrated boxing match. This event took place
on April 18, 2025 at Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos, with many fans looking forward to
what had been described as the climax to the unresolved conflict that had been building for
months.
Conflict flared when Speed Darlington decided to try luring Portable with the prospect of
performing at his concert for the princely sum of ₦500,000. Portable turned down the ‘offer’ only
to, allegedly, respond by hurling insults towards Speed Darlington’s mother. The situation
escalated even further when Speed Darlington decided to jump on the bandwagon and mocked
Portable for a viral sensation that witnessed Portable, in a bid to dodge being arrested for an
owed debt on a G-wagon, sprinting and attempting to leap over a fence.
In a bid to conclude their longstanding issue with each other, Portable was extensively prepared
prior to the match, round one saw him take the leading position, dominating the fight which
ended with Speed Darlington suffering a hand injury and Portable winning through Technical
Knockout.
Reactions to the bout were as charged and intense as the match itself. Sparing no adjectives,
Speed claims his loss to Portable was a byproduct of tribalism and blamed Portable for winning,
claiming he used “juju” (the magic charms). To echo Portable, he did celebrate his victory on
social media, going as far as wire praising himself “the king of the ring” boasting how he was
able to defeat Sparring while thanking his supporters throughout the process.
To add to the already overstimulating event, Portable was surprisingly gifted ₦20 million from
Burna Boy who is a Grammy-winning artist, further adding to the sensationalism we burst into
during the event.
Not only does this match settle a personal score dispute, but also serves as the focal point on
the emerging phenomenon of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, where personal squabbles escalate
into shows of spectacle.
